A fruits garden has been developed in Puliyarakonam, Thiruvananthapuram using the Miyawaki method of afforestation. The garden was created using fast-growing, fruit-bearing plant saplings by employing techniques like dense planting, mixed planting, application of biomass and mulching which were developed by Professor (Dr.) Akira Miyawaki for afforestation.

Plant varieties like Gooseberry (Nelli), Guava (Pera), pomegranate (Maathalam), Jaamba, Mango (Maavu), Jackfruit (Plavu), Indian coffee plum (Lubika), Star Gooseberry (Arinelli), Coconut (Thengu) and Ceylon olive (Kaara) are planted here.
