Only organic manure is used in farming in the Miyawaki forests in the Puliyarakonam plot. But as transporting it to the hilly site is a logistical nightmare, it was decided that a small-scale dairy farm should be set up. Accordingly, indigenous breeds of cattle – like Cheruvally and Vechur – as well as goats – like Attappady black, Malabari – and chickens were bought. The numbers have increased, and their contribution to the culture of self-sustenance is immense.
